While the Getting’s Good
WRITTEN BY: ANT MCNAUGHT
I heard me a tale in Nashville.
It made me kneel and pray.
Now I’m home in Tucson,
same old story here today
from a friend who says he heard it
from a friend in Santa Fe.
Have you been true to me
just like you swore you would?
If you ain’t, you’d best be getting
and get while the getting’s good.
With just one love to live for,
just one life to live,
who gives away the diamond
that is not theirs to give?
I ain’t making conversation.
I ain’t taking names.
Look to Jesus for salvation.
I’m done with playing games.
Have you been true to me
just like you swore you would?
If you ain’t, you’d best be getting
and get while the getting’s good.
Some folk, they lead a charmed life,
walk away from burning wrecks
but every bill gets paid, my love,
in this world or the next.
Have I been true to you?
I’m still that man who stood
beside you on your wedding day.
I swore I always would.
Have you been true to me
just like you swore you would?
If you ain’t, you’d best be getting
and get while the getting’s good.
If you ain’t, you’d best be getting
and get while the getting’s good.
